But compacting the cereal too much will make the treats really firm and dry. I typically use an oiled offset spatula or you can grease your hands a bit and press down with your hands. Make sure you don’t press the mixture down too firmly. I like to line the pan first with parchment paper so that I can easily pull the treats out to slice. Transfer the marshmallow treat mixture to the pan. I always wait to do this until the cereal has been thoroughly mixed so they don’t melt too much if it is chocolate. If you chose to add in solid mix-ins, fold them in quickly after you have combined the cereal. Note: I find it easiest to add the cereal into the pan with your melted marshmallow mixture, but if your pan isn’t big enough you can pour the marshmallow into a bowl with your cereal to mix. The mixing process is a bit tricky and sticky! But keep with folding the mixture over itself until everything is evenly distributed. Rice Krispies are the classic choice, but I personally love the texture of corn flakes! These treats are so quick and easy to make, try a few different kinds of cereal! ![]() Step 2: Combine Melted Marshmallow with CerealĪs soon as you have a liquid marshmallow mixture, quickly stir it together with your cereal of choice. If using the microwave, combine the fat and the marshmallows in a large bowl and heat in 20-second increments, stirring in between. This can be done on the stovetop (my preferred method) or in the microwave. It is important that the marshmallows do not get too hot during this process or the treats can become too hard once cooled. If you are using any flavorings, you would also add them here. I love browning the butter for more of an elevated flavor, but you can’t go wrong with any of the options! Then add in the marshmallows to melt over low heat. Mini Marshmallows (so you have some in tact marshmallows throughout).Those give you an opportunity to get extra creative! Customize the Flavor of Your Marshmallow Treats What makes these treats so fun is that you can easily customize the flavors and make so many different varieties! Butter can be browned to make more of an adult version! Or it can be replaced with peanut butter to make a saltier version.
